It’s super easy to get caught up in the idea that Jesus was just a big softy who went around telling everyone to love one another all of the time. Yes, He very much calls us to love our neighbor, but He was no softy. He frequently challenged the status quo. He made people uncomfortable. And He called sinners out on their sinfulness and to reconciliation with the Father.
Yesterday, we heard Him say that He wants to set the world on fire and establish division. He came to shake things up—to literally change everything. When something gets burned, it completely changes the chemical composition. It’s no long the same thing it once was. That’s why He came to the earth—to change it… and us. We’re called to love everyone, whether they share our beliefs or not, but there should be a noticeable difference in moral composition/character (a division) between those that believe and those that don’t.
