As Catholics, we are used to beginning every prayer with the Sign of the Cross, but did you know that the Sign of the Cross is itself a prayer? We are stating that we are living our lives “in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” We recall that we are God’s, and we name all three Persons of the Trinity while tracing our body with a cross—the vessel of our salvation.
We’re in the middle of an election (or a circus… depending on how you want to look at it). Politicians are supposed to do things in the name of the people who voted them into office. That’s their job. We put them there with our votes, now they represent us. Similarly, we are put here by God, and we are called to represent Him. How are we representing Him? Are we living our lives for Him or something/someone else?
