When baby’s are born, they're able to recognize their parents’ voices after hearing them in the womb. The voices sound different, but they’re still able to recognize them. Similarly, we know God’s voice. We’ve heard it, built into His creation, so many times, yet it sounds different. We can hear His voice in our parents, a radiant sunset, or even an amazing meal. We know His voice even if we don’t always recognize it.
In yesterday’s Gospel, Jesus explains that we are His sheep, and He is the Shepherd. We know His voice, and we follow Him. If sheep ignore the shepherd and wander off, they risk getting eaten. If we fail to recognize God’s voice (or worse, choose to ignore it), we can also be susceptible to “wolves.” The quieter we become, the more we can hear. Take some time this week just to listen to the Shepherd’s voice.
